Back From the Dead

Yes, it seems that I have mysteriously vanished from Earth for the last few weeks or so. I’m back in school.

You can calm down now. I’m still alive. Or at least breathing.

So this is my status update.

Bye.

An Age Old Riddle

Sorry for this quick post, but I have to share this with you guys:

“Why is a raven like a writing desk?”

Mad Hatter is from the AMAZING book Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll.

If you’ve ever read or watched Alice in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll, you’ve had that moment where you tried to answer it. But you can’t. This question was asked by the Mad Hatter, who is pretty crazy. Even Mr. Carroll himself said this riddle had no answer. But luckily for you guys, I am an expert Googler (is that a word? No?), and I found the answer on this page:

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1173/why-is-a-raven-like-a-writing-desk

The Answer:

Because Poe wrote on both.

Poe= Edgar Allen Poe

Get it?

I’m sorry to disappoint, but my genius brain did not come up with this answer :). I think the answer has appeared on many websites, but that was the first I checked.

Bye!

My Favorite Bands

I don’t know why this is subject is even broached today, but I just feel like I need a way to express my obsessions.

5. Plain White T’s

Really, the reason I like this band is because of their hit single “Hey There Delilah”. But I checked out some of their songs, and they seem all right.

4. Imagine Dragons

Some of you may not have heard of this band before. It’s an indie rock band. Their song, It’s Time, was a background song for Perks of Being a Wallflower movie trailer. And I just loved it.

3. The Beatles

Who doesn’t like the Beatles? I loved how the Olympics had some of their songs playing in the Ceremonies, along with John Lennon’s face and all that.

2. OneRepublic

What can I say? I just love their lyrics and beats.

1. Fun.

Yeah, yeah, call me jumping on the bandwagon, but it was because of
“We Are Young” when it reached Number 1 on Billboard. That prompted me to check out their other songs, and I was just amazed. Fun., if you know, is an indie band too. I think that Fun. did pretty good getting that far. Their songs also have a ton of meaning and deep thought, like Carry On or Some Nights.

My Top 5 Bands. Make of them what you will.

Top 5 Best TV Shows

I have been watching TV for a long time. A long long long time. So long I can now have the authority to produce my own Top 5 Best TV Shows!!!

5. The Simpsons

Yep, the Simpsons. Those yellow cartoon people that live in Springfield. Who hasn’t laughed at Homer’s silly antics? Who hasn’t wished that they could perform the same tricks as Bart? (Fine, maybe not). The stories are relatively simple, every one promoting a moral.  It’s a classic timeless.

4. Glee

To be honest, I thought I would never like this show. But I thought, what the heck, borrowed it from my local library, then watched it. And I was amazed. Glee is a must-have for high-school students everywhere. They tackle teenage problems, like being bullied, teen pregnancy, and cliques. The basis of this show is a Glee Club, where underdogs can sing about their feelings and such.

3. The Big Bang Theory

Really, I think this is what really set off the “Geek is the new cool”. Intellectuals Sheldon and Leonard are roommates, and the conversations they traded together are hilarious. Chances are, you wouldn’t understand it, but still, it’s funny.

2. Family Guy

I’ve been watching this for years now. It has a great plot, shocking twists, lovable characters. My favorite character? Stewie Griffin. But now, I think he is less psychotic and dangerous than he was ten years ago. If you ever have a chance, check out their episodes.

1. How I Met Your Mother

My favorite of all time, no competition. “A love story in reverse”, it tells of a bachelor Ted Mosby telling his children of how he met the girl of his dreams. (By the way, he’s been telling it for seven seasons and we still don’t know his wife!!!) Through adventures and tales of his friends Lily, Marshall, and Barney Stinson, the TV show is just hilarious. Season Eight is currently coming out in about a month. Definitely worth watching.

So here you have it. My top 5 TV episodes. Have another one? Leave it below as a comment!

Note: I do not own any of the shows I listed above. No copyright infringement intended. They are owned by Fox, Fox, CBS, Fox, CBS.

The Magic of Disney

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post (or did I?), I recently journeyed the vast distance between my state and the beautiful state of Florida to personally experience the wonderful magic of Disney.

And I got to say, it was every bit of magical as I thought.

To those who have never been to Disney, I know you’re skeptical. Trust me, I’ve been there too. How can a place be truly magical?

Granted, this was my first visit.

And I was blown away.

Firstly, the staff. Amazing staff. They were genuinely nice to everyone, treated kids like adults, gave out immense help. I mean, they were knowledgeable about EVERYTHING. We asked a staffer how to get from Disney to Universal Orlando Studios, and she gave out a pretty accurate information. The people who manned the Character Meet n’ Greets were totally cool too, considering that they were helping out a person in a stuffed outfit. (If you are a kid under six, then yes, the characters are real.)

Secondly, the environment. The whole time I was there, I was amazed by the amount of litter in the parks. As in, none. And when you calculate the size of Disney, that’s pretty amazing. And also, I know this is silly, but I didn’t get a single mosquito bite during my trip! I was utterly surprised.

Thirdly, the attractions. I loved them all. From Space Mountain to It’s a Small World, they ranged from thrilling to sight-seeing. I have to say, my favorite was Expedition Everest- it was a shock when the roller coaster car started zooming backward into the blackness of the cave! I loved it.

Next, I loved the range of activities at the Disney Parks. For those of you who went, I don’t know if you did it or not, but there was something called Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom. That was fun. That sent us traversing Magic Kingdom back and forth a couple of times to access Portals. Also, there were Fireworks at night in Magic Kingdom and Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios. (They were really something.)

So all in all, it was definitely worth the price of admission to visit. It looks a lot, but once you experience it, you would definitely feel like it was worth it.

Now that I’m back home and ready for school again, the whole trip feels like a dream or a fantasy. Wow. That’s how powerful the effect of Disney can do to you.

Note: No copyright infringement intended when I discussed Disney or any of its rides, parks, activities, etc, etc. This is merely a review of Disney.

On Doing Homework

As you all probably know, I am a high-schooler! Which means I am currently obligated with the task of doing a little something called homework.

Doodling in the margins again?

Homework- work you do at home, as said so wisely by Bradley Chalkers.

Yes, for you readers out there still in school, you know what I’m talking about. Filling out worksheets and more worksheets about something you learned in school. Answering question after question about the same thing, for the next ten hours!

Fine. I’m exaggerating. I actually like doing homework!

Now, before you call me a nerd, a teacher’s pet, etc, etc, reason with me.

Homework is here so that we can actually have a grade!

Oh, I know that all teachers make up the excuse of homework helping us on tests by reinforcing concepts or whatever. While that may be true, this is even better. Without homework, we wouldn’t have grades!

The state requires that we have grades. So without homework, the only grade would come from tests and quizzes and exams, oh my! And we all know what happens if you fail even one- your GPA would crash and burn.

So yeah. Homework helps in the short and long run.

Okay, that’s all for today.

Au revoir! (Gotta sharpen up my French, taking French 1 next year).
